چکیده

Oscillatory behavior of electron capture rates in the two-body decay D → R+ ν of hydrogen-like ion (D) into recoil ion (R) plus undetected neutrino ν was reported in storage ring single-ion experiments at the GSI laboratory, Darmstadt, for two cases with period ≈ 7 s. Ivanov and Kienle [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 (2009) 062502] have relegated this period to neutrino masses through neutrino mixing in the final state. New arguments are given here against this interpretation, while suggesting that these ‘GSI Oscillations’ may be related to interference between chirally entangled final states split by the interaction of the neutrino magnetic moment μν with the magnetic field of the storage ring. This explanation requires that μν is one order of magnitude smaller than the laboratory upper limit μν < 0.54 × 10μB , and its consequences are briefly explored.

Neutrino Signals in Electron-Capture Storage-Ring Experiments

Neutrino signals in electron-capture decays of hydrogen-like parent ions P in storage-ring experiments at GSI are reconsidered, with special emphasis placed on the storage-ring quasi-circular motion of the daughter ions D in two-body decays P → D + νe. It is argued that, to the extent that daughter ions are detected, these detection rates might exhibit modulations with periods of order seconds,...

In a recent paper, oscillations observed in the electron capture probability were attributed to the mixing of neutrino mass eigenstates. This paper is shown to be in error in two respects. In a recent measurement[1] at GSI of the electron capture rate for hydrogen-like 140 P r ions, 140 P r 58+ → 140 Ce 58+ + ν (1) the decaying ions were found to have a non-exponential time dependence. The appr...

Comment on the Neutrino-Mixing Interpretation of the GSI Time Anomaly

It is shown that neutrino mixing cannot explain the GSI time anomaly, refuting recent claims in this direction. Addendum 1: Remarks on arXiv:0801.1465. Addendum 2: Quantum effects in GSI nuclear decay are verboten. A GSI experiment observed an oscillatory time modulation of the electron-capture decay of Pr and Pm ions, Pr → Ce + νe , Pm → Nd + νe , (1) with periods T (Pr) = 7.06(8) s and T (Pm)...

On the time–modulation of the K–shell electron capture decay of H-like 140Pr ions produced by neutrino mass differences

According to recent experimental data at GSI, the rate of the number of daughter ions Ce, produced by the nuclear K–shell electron capture (EC) decay of the H–like ion Pr, is modulated in time with a period TEC = 7.06(8) sec and an amplitude aEC = 0.18(3). We show that this phenomenon can be explained by neutrino mass differences and derive a value for the difference of squared masses ∆m21 = m ...

On the time–modulation of the K–shell electron capture decay of H-like 140Pr ions produced by neutrino–flavour mixing

According to recent experimental data at GSI, the rate of the number of daughter ions Ce, produced by the nuclear K–shell electron capture (EC) decay of the H–like ion Pr, is modulated in time with a period Td = 7.06(8) sec and an amplitude aEC = 0.18(3). We show that this phenomenon can be explained by neutrino– flavour mixing and derive a value for the quadratic mass difference ∆m21 = m 2 2 −...
